Sports has been played by Nepalese people at national and international level competition as well as on the home grounds. Sports helps to develop the skills of the individual physically and mentally and teaches teamwork and help to achieve goals.
Football
Football is the most popular sports in Nepal. In Nepal, Football has been governed by All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) and Nepal National Football Team represents Nepal in all international competitions. The football game was started in Nepal during Rana regime in 1921 and was introduced in Nepal by the young players who had learned this game from the other countries. It was believed that the pioneer of this game in Nepal was Mr. Narayan Narshingh Rana and Chadrajung Thapa. Nowadays, most of the people, as well as children, play this sports that make them physically and mentally fit. Football develops their skills in making a good strategy and learns how to cooperate with each other in the group, as this sport is a team buildup game.
Cricket
Cricket is the second most popular sports in Nepal after Football. This sport is played by many people throughout Nepal. National Cricket Team was a biggest cricketing achievement when this team reached the qualifying round in the tournament held in Bangladesh ICC World T20 in the year 2014. Cricket was first introduced to Nepal in the 1920s by Lt.Gen.Madan Shumsher JBR who was the youngest son of Rana Prime Minister Maharaja Chandra Shumsher Jang Bahadur Rana. As Cricket is a team game, it develops skills of the individual in various ways.
Basketball
Basketball is a sport played making two teams where goals are scored using a ball through a netted hoop fixed at each end of the court. According to the people of Nepal, Basketball has been listed as the most favorite sports to play where they can build there can be physically fit and develop skills. People of Nepal usually play basketball in college, home, and grounds as well as take much more interest in this game.
Rafting
Rafting is an outdoor activity sport done for enjoyment and has been known as the most adventurous sports in Nepal. Rafting is done mostly in whitewater or in rough water. As Nepal has many rivers which are very interesting to explore, some of the rivers that are often explored are Trishuli River, Seti River, Bhote Koshi River etc. According to the present status, Rafting is done by the youngster as it deals with risk and needs teamwork is the part of the experience. River Rafting is mostly done in between the months of February and June and from September to mid-December.
Bungee Jumping
Bungee Jumping is another adventurous sport of Nepal and can also be spelled as “Bungy” Jumping. Bungee Jumping is an activity that involves jumping from a height of a tall structure which is usually a fixed and is connected to a long and large elastic cord. Individuals with health issues like heart problem, blood pressure, underweight etc are not allowed to take part in the bungee jumping. Bungee Jumping consist of various rules that are categorized by the management.
